Holmen has expanded its Elevate lightweight containerboard portfolio with the introduction of Holmen Elevate Flute, a fresh-fibre fluting grade designed to support lightweight corrugated packaging applications.
The addition extends the Elevate range beyond linerboard, allowing converters to use both liner and fluting grades within the same lightweight packaging concept. According to Holmen, the approach is intended to reduce material consumption and associated emissions while maintaining the performance requirements of corrugated packaging.
Available in basis weights starting at 72 gsm, the new fluting grade targets applications where reducing packaging weight is becoming increasingly important, including e-commerce, shelf-ready retail packaging, and fruit and vegetable punnets.
The product is approved for direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foods, broadening its potential use in food and beverage packaging applications.
“Fresh fibre is at the core of how we combine performance with sustainability,” said Mathias Dufeld, Segment Owner Containerboard at Holmen Board and Paper. “By enabling lightweight corrugated solutions, we can help reduce material use and improve cost efficiency while supporting circularity and the efficient use of resources.”
The Elevate range is produced at Holmen’s Braviken Paper Mill in Sweden through an integrated supply chain designed to maximise resource efficiency. Pulpwood and wood chips are sourced in part from the company’s adjacent sawmill, while residual materials are utilised for bioenergy production or soil improvement.
Holmen says this production model contributes to one of the lowest carbon footprints in the containerboard sector.
Holmen Board and Paper manufactures paperboard and paper products made from fresh fibre sourced from sustainably managed forests. Its products serve a broad range of applications, including publishing, consumer packaging, food packaging, electronics and transport. The company operates production and converting facilities in Sweden and the United Kingdom.
