Eska, part of RDM Group, has partnered with materials engineering company Releaf to introduce Eska Leaf, a packaging board combining recycled solid board with a leaf-based paper layer made from fallen urban leaves.
The collaboration brings together Releaf’s technology for transforming fallen leaves into paper and Eska’s expertise in recycled solid board, lamination and customised material development.
Leaves used for the material are collected from major cities, including Paris, and processed by Releaf into leaf-based paper. The paper is then laminated onto Eska’s recycled solid board, creating a surface intended to retain a natural appearance and tactile character.
Eska Leaf is being presented at Luxe Pack Monaco, taking place from September 28 to 30, 2026, at the Grimaldi Forum. The material is on display at Eska’s booth RC02 as a concept aimed at luxury and premium packaging applications.
According to the companies, the collaboration is intended to give urban green waste a new use while offering brands a distinctive packaging material based partly on an alternative fibre source.
Eska also operates a dedicated laboratory for bespoke and personalised board development, allowing brand owners and converters to collaborate on customised materials. The company said Eska Leaf demonstrates how its recycled solid board and lamination capabilities can be combined with emerging materials developed by external partners.
“Sustainability and circularity are built into our mission,” said Krzysztof Krajewski, Chief Sustainability and Innovation Officer at RDM Group. He said the material is intended to help reduce pressure on forest resources while retaining the performance characteristics customers expect from solid board.
Releaf co-founder Valentyn Frechka said the collaboration demonstrates how fallen leaves collected by cities can be transformed into a material resource and combined with Eska’s board-making and lamination capabilities for premium packaging.
RDM Group is a European producer of packaging board, specializing in recycled-fibre cartonboard for packaging applications. Headquartered in Milan, Italy, the Group operates eight mills and four sheeting centres across Europe and the United States, serving markets including food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, consumer goods and luxury packaging.
