10.9% rise in paper industry jobs between 2012 and 2022

Between 2012 and 2022, the number of people in the EU working in the manufacture of paper and paper products industry increased by 10.9%.

In absolute figures, this means that 62 500 more people were working in this industry.

In 2012, the figure stood at 574 800, with the vast majority of them (559 700) being employees and the rest registered as self-employed (14 600). It was not specified whether the remaining 500 individuals were employees or self-employed.

In 2022, 637 300 people were working in this industry. Of this number, 622 700 were employees, bringing a 11.3% increase (+63 000) to the sector since 2012.

When it comes to self-employed people working in the paper industry, there was a slight decrease (-300; -2.1%).

The manufacturing of paper and paper products industry made up 19.9% of the whole industry related to forestry and wood-based industry in 2022 (3.2 million; classified by NACE Rev. 2).
