Katariina Kemppainen (SVP Group R&D, Metsä Spring) has been elected as member of the Board of Directors of the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC).

BIC is a non-profit organisation, set up in Brussels in 2013, to represent the private sector in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the European Commission. Today, BIC and the European Commission are partners in Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking, a EUR 2 billion PPP that funds projects advancing competitive circular bio-based industries in Europe. BIC’s Board represents a balanced reflection of the composition of the industry members coming from diverse sectors, such as agriculture and agri-food, aquaculture and marine, chemicals and materials, forestry, pulp and paper and technology providers and waste management and treatment.

Metsä Group was one of about 30 founders of BIC 10 years ago. Today, BIC has around 250 Industry Members and more than 200 Associate Members. The BIC team has its office in Brussels.
