The Kemijarvi Biorefinery project has been selected by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) as one of only four international investment cases to be showcased at the Asian Financial Forum (AFF) 2026, under the Environment, Energy and Clean Tech theme.

The selection places the Finnish biorefinery project among a small group of initiatives highlighted for their relevance to global sustainability priorities and their readiness for international investment. The investment case will be presented on January 27, 2026, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

AFF is a leading global platform for dialogue on finance, investment and policy, jointly organized by the Hong Kong SAR Government and HKTDC. The 2026 edition, held under the theme “Finance Empowering Business”, places a strong emphasis on sustainability, clean technologies and the global energy transition. The forum brings together government representatives, institutional investors and corporate leaders from more than 60 countries and regions.

According to HKTDC, projects selected for the AFF investment showcase are evaluated on their alignment with climate objectives, circular-economy principles and long-term industrial impact. Participation is widely regarded as a signal of international credibility and investment maturity.

Kemijarvi Biorefinery Ltd. is developing a €1.7 billion next-generation biorefinery designed to produce high-value renewable materials from sustainably sourced Nordic biomass. The project applies advanced process technologies and is being developed under full environmental, social and governance (ESG) compliance.

The facility is expected to strengthen Finland’s position in the bioeconomy while supporting long-term industrial employment in Northern Finland. Established in 2020, the privately owned company holds the required environmental and water permits for bioproduct production at the Kemijärvi industrial site.
