Paper mills continue to focus on increasing uptime and operating speed. This is to increase profits and meet their customer demands. Increased uptime also helps offset the need for skilled maintenance personnel as baby boomers retire and budgets shrink.

Digitalisation and smart handling of data give opportunities for more efficient mills with more stable processes and an even quality. Holmen has therefore bought the latest version of ExtractEye from PulpEye to their mills and is now in the implementation phase. This means that Holmen mills are actively taking steps towards Industry 4.0.

International technology Group ANDRITZ has successfully started up the PrimeLineTM W6 tissue machine, including stock preparation, re-evaporation plant, hall-ventilation, automation, and electrification, at Arkhbum Tissue Group LLC in Vorsino (Kaluga region), Russia.

Valmet will supply an evaporation line to Century Pulp and Paper’s (CPP) pulp mill in Lalkuan, India. The new evaporation line will meet the future needs of the mill's ongoing pulp production capacity expansion, together with the existing evaporation line. This investment will also improve the overall steam economy of the mill.
