Pulp Moulded Products is expanding its manufacturing capacity in Ontario with a new production line and automated pressing cell, supported by a C$1.5 million federal contribution.

The Keswick-based manufacturer is undertaking a C$3.643 million project aimed at increasing production capacity and strengthening competitiveness. The funding was announced October 2 by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario as part of a broader package supporting 31 Greater Toronto Area businesses and organizations in responding to tariff-related pressures.

The C$1.5 million contribution is being provided through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative, which supports companies as they adopt new technologies, increase production capacity, strengthen supply chains and diversify into new markets amid continuing trade uncertainty.

Founded in 2008, Pulp Moulded Products manufactures moulded-fibre packaging made from recycled fibre for applications including electronics, food, consumer goods and industrial products. Originally based in Newmarket, the company now operates from Keswick, Ontario.

PMP says its current Keswick manufacturing facility covers approximately 140,000 square feet and supplies customers across North America. The company produces custom moulded-fibre packaging for applications ranging from protective inserts and shipping components to consumer-facing packaging.

The latest project represents another stage in the company’s manufacturing expansion. In 2024, FedDev Ontario announced a C$1.3 million repayable investment in PMP to add new pressing and manufacturing lines as demand increased for recyclable and compostable moulded-fibre packaging.

At the time, PMP President Jason Kinder said the investment would help the company increase both the quantity and quality of its production as brand owners sought alternatives to single-use plastic packaging.

PMP’s Ontario operation processes about 5,000 metric tons of fibre annually, while a partner manufacturing operation in Nevada processes another 3,000 metric tons, bringing their combined volume to approximately 8,000 metric tons per year.

The new production line and automated pressing cell are expected to further expand PMP’s manufacturing capability as the company continues to build its position in the North American moulded-fibre packaging market.
