Arctic Paper Grycksbo has inaugurated its Bio25 project, a SEK 285 million investment aimed at improving energy efficiency and expanding biofuel use at its Swedish mill. The initiative includes a new pellet production line and upgrades to the site’s biofuel system.
The Bio25 project was first announced in January, as previously reported by Paper Advance.
Bio25 strengthens the mill’s energy flexibility by enabling the use of a broader range of biofuels, including sawdust sourced from external suppliers. The project also enhances fuel logistics and expands the existing biofuel boiler.
A key component is a new pellet plant with an annual production capacity of approximately 50,000 tonnes. The facility converts residual biomass from operations into wood pellets, creating an additional revenue stream while improving resource utilization.
The project also integrates energy recovery measures. Surplus heat from paper production is reused to dry biofuel, increasing overall efficiency and reducing energy losses across the mill.
According to the company, the investment is designed to reinforce both operational resilience and long-term sustainability. By optimizing internal energy flows and valorizing by-products, the mill aims to lower its environmental footprint while strengthening its competitive position.
The Bio25 project was officially inaugurated on April 17, 2026, in the presence of local officials and media representatives.
