Schneider Electric’s advanced control technology is enabling Magnon to enhance the performance and sustainability of its renewable biomass facility in Mérida, Spain.

The deployment of EcoStruxure™ Advanced Process Control (APC) marks an important step in optimizing plant operations and reducing environmental impact.

The Mérida complex, one of Magnon’s key renewable energy sites, generates electricity from agricultural and forestry residues. By leveraging advanced mathematical models, Schneider Electric’s APC system monitors the energy production process in real time, automatically adjusting critical variables to maintain stable, efficient operations.

This optimization has resulted in measurable improvements in process efficiency, reinforcing Magnon’s commitment to decarbonization and sustainable energy production. The technology also minimizes manual interventions and resource consumption, allowing precise control of operational parameters and improving overall reliability.

“Biomass-based power generation is essential to building a cleaner, more sustainable energy future,” said Javier Figueras, Vice President of Industrial Automation at Schneider Electric Iberia. “Our mission is to support Magnon with cutting-edge solutions and technical expertise that ensure efficient, resilient plant operations.”

Guillermo Negro, CEO of Magnon, added: “Biomass holds tremendous potential as a driver of decarbonization. By converting agricultural and forestry residues into clean energy, we create stable jobs, add value to rural areas, and significantly reduce emissions.”

The integration of Schneider Electric’s APC technology at Mérida demonstrates how digital process control can strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of biomass energy, contributing to Spain’s broader energy transition.

Ence Energía y Celulosa is a leading Spanish company specializing in renewable energy generation from agroforestry biomass and the production of high-quality cellulose pulp.
