Adsorbi has launched a cellulose-based air filter media designed for molecular filtration in recirculating airflow systems, marking its entry into the active air filtration segment.

The new product family, branded Arbomax, targets applications such as air purifiers and HVAC systems, where it is engineered to remove gaseous pollutants while extending filter lifetime and reducing replacement frequency.

According to the company, the material captures pollutants including aldehydes, ammonia, sulphur dioxide and organic acids, while limiting the risk of re-release after adsorption.

Arbomax is positioned as an alternative to activated carbon, the dominant material in molecular filtration. Adsorbi said the material offers a lower carbon footprint and improved supply chain transparency, with raw materials sourced from Nordic forests and production based in Europe.

The company added that the product is designed to reduce maintenance needs and system downtime by increasing filter durability in active airflow conditions.

The launch comes as demand for lower-carbon filtration materials increases amid tightening indoor air quality regulations and growing ESG requirements.

Adsorbi, founded in 2022 from research at Chalmers University of Technology, developed the material through extended testing and collaboration with industry partners.

The product will be showcased at Filtech in Cologne in June as the company seeks to expand into global filtration markets.

Adsorbi is a Sweden-based biomaterials company developing cellulose-based materials for air filtration.
