RISE Research reports that, in Sundsvall, Sweden, Votion Biorefineries is revolutionizing sustainable energy by converting waste products into biofuels and biochemicals.
Anders Edling HultgrenFounded in 2022 by Anders Edling Hultgren, the company aims to create green alternatives that seamlessly replace traditional fuel sources.
Using waste materials from forestry, agriculture, and food industries—including sawdust, bark, straw, and even coconut shells—Votion has developed a unique process to produce biofuels and sustainable aviation fuel. "The most effective way to transition to a sustainable society is to do it without anyone noticing," explains Hultgren.
A critical partnership with RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) has been instrumental in Votion's development. By leveraging RISE's labs and expertise, the company rapidly tested and refined its technologies without massive upfront infrastructure investments.
With six patent applications and a proven process, Votion is now preparing to establish its own pilot plant. This next step will enable large-scale production of advanced biofuels, positioning the company at the forefront of sustainable energy innovation.
RISE Research Institutes of Sweden is Sweden’s research institute and innovation partner. Through international collaboration with industry, academia and the public sector, they ensure business competitiveness and contribute to a sustainable society.
