Essity has launched a strategic review of its global Consumer Tissue business as the hygiene and health company evaluates options to optimize its portfolio and increase shareholder value.
The review will assess different ownership alternatives for the business area and could ultimately lead to a separation, although the company said no decisions have been made at this stage.
“Essity's Consumer Tissue business has a strong offering under its own brands, retailer brands, and through private label, with leading market positions and an efficient supply chain,” said Ulrika Kolsrud, President and CEO of Essity.
The Consumer Tissue business generated net sales of SEK 43.5 billion in 2025, representing 31% of Essity’s total group sales. EBITA excluding items affecting comparability reached SEK 5.2 billion, with an EBITA margin of 11.9%.
The division includes products such as toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, moist tissues and napkins sold under brands including Lotus, Tempo, Zewa, Cushelle, Plenty, Regio and Familia. Essity also manufactures retailer-brand and private-label tissue products.
Essity said the business holds a leading position in Europe and ranks as the second-largest consumer tissue supplier in Latin America. The division employs approximately 13,000 people and operates 29 production facilities globally.
The announcement comes ahead of Essity’s Capital Markets Day scheduled for May 7, where the company is expected to provide additional details on strategy and portfolio priorities.
The review is part of Essity’s broader efforts to continuously evaluate its product portfolio and improve long-term value creation across the group.
Essity is a global hygiene and health company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. The company develops and manufactures tissue, personal care and health products sold in approximately 150 countries under brands including TENA, Tork, Libero, Lotus, Tempo and Zewa. In 2025, Essity reported net sales of approximately SEK 138 billion and employed around 36,000 people worldwide.
