Sylvamo’s Eastover Mill, a cornerstone of American manufacturing, recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, earning a prestigious acknowledgment in the U.S. Congressional Record.

U.S. Representative James Clyburn (D-S.C.), whose district encompasses the mill, praised the milestone in the Congressional proceedings, recognizing the mill’s enduring contributions to the region and the country.

Rep. Clyburn highlighted the Eastover Mill as a symbol of sustainable manufacturing, emphasizing its role in producing vital paper products responsibly, while supporting family-wage jobs and contributing to the prosperity of Eastover and Richland County.

“The Eastover Mill is a shining example of the future of American manufacturing—producing the paper we rely on responsibly and sustainably, supporting family-wage jobs, and contributing to the Eastover and Richland County communities,” said Clyburn. “I wish Sylvamo continued prosperity and success in the years to come.”

Established in 1984, Eastover Mill has become the largest and lowest-cost producer of uncoated freesheet paper in North America. The mill employs more than 800 workers and has a ripple effect on the region, creating over 5,000 additional jobs. This economic impact, coupled with a commitment to sustainability, has cemented Eastover’s role as a key player in the pulp and paper industry.

Mike Gregory, mill manager, reflected on the journey that brought Eastover Mill to this significant milestone. “As we celebrate 40 years of the Eastover Mill, I can’t help but look back on all the hard work and dedication that got us here,” Gregory said. “This milestone shows just how much our employees, both past and present, have contributed to our success.”

Gregory also underscored the mill’s commitment to community and environmental responsibility, noting its ongoing efforts in sustainability—using renewable energy sources, responsibly sourced materials, and supporting local initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents.

Eastover Mill has long been dedicated to serving critical community needs, with a focus on reducing environmental impact and fostering sustainable practices. The mill’s achievements have not only strengthened its presence in the region but have also paved the way for a future built on responsible growth and innovation.

As Sylvamo looks ahead to the next 40 years, the Eastover Mill remains committed to its legacy of excellence, ensuring continued contributions to the local community and the broader paper industry.
