Essity reported higher volumes and improved margins in the first quarter of 2026, despite lower reported sales and pricing pressure.
Net sales decreased 5.1% year-on-year to SEK 33.2 billion, mainly due to currency effects. On an organic basis, sales grew 0.4%, driven by a 1.1% increase in volumes, while price/mix declined by 0.7%.
Adjusted EBITA fell 2% to SEK 4.6 billion, but increased by 5% in constant currency. The EBITA margin rose 0.4 percentage points to 13.9%.
The increase in profitability was supported by higher volumes, lower cost of goods sold and disciplined pricing.
Looking ahead, the company signaled potential price increases as rising energy costs weigh on operations amid geopolitical tensions affecting global energy markets.
The company also announced a new share buyback program of SEK 3 billion, set to begin no earlier than May 11.
For buyers and converters, the quarter confirms a volume-driven environment, with pricing remaining under pressure.
