Mondi reports €212m EBITDA in Q1

Andrew King, CEO of Mondi, commenting on Q1 2026 results amid margin pressure and rising costs

Mondi CEO Andrew King said higher volumes in Q1 were offset by lower prices and rising cost pressure.

Financial News

Mondi reported underlying EBITDA of €212 million for the first quarter of 2026, as higher sales volumes were offset by lower selling prices and rising input costs.

The result includes a €8 million forestry fair value gain and compares with €214 million in the previous quarter, pointing to continued pressure on margins across packaging and paper markets.

Sales volumes increased sequentially in Corrugated Packaging and Flexible Packaging, supported by recent capacity expansions and the absence of planned maintenance shutdowns. However, lower average selling prices and higher energy-related costs toward the end of the quarter weighed on profitability.

In downstream operations, Corrugated Solutions and Paper Bags faced margin pressure, while Consumer Flexibles delivered broadly stable performance, supported by resilient end-markets.

Mondi said it is implementing pricing actions to mitigate cost inflation, with the impact expected to be reflected from the third quarter due to typical contractual timing.

The company also indicated that forestry fair value gains are expected to be neutral for the full year 2026, following lower wood prices in South Africa.

The update comes as Mondi continues to adjust its industrial footprint, with restructuring measures announced separately.

Mondi is a global packaging and paper group operating in more than 30 countries, with integrated capabilities across the value chain. The company reported revenues of €7.7 billion and underlying EBITDA of €1.0 billion in 2025.
