Metsä Group has issued a profit warning for the second quarter of 2025, projecting a significantly negative comparable operating result of approximately EUR -35 million.
The revised estimate marks a sharp decline from the EUR 81 million profit reported in the first quarter of 2025 and is well below the company’s earlier expectations for Q2.
The company attributes the decline primarily to continued weak demand for market pulp in Europe and China. In addition, uncertainty surrounding U.S. import duties has negatively affected paperboard purchasing behaviour, leading Metsä Board, a Group subsidiary, to scale back production more than initially planned.
Metsä Group had previously indicated in its April interim report that Q2 results would be weaker than the first quarter, but the scale of the downturn has since become more pronounced.
The Group will publish its half-year financial report for January–June 2025 on 31 July at 12:00 EET.
