Metsä Group has appointed Jussi Vanhanen as its new President and CEO, effective July 1, 2025.

He will succeed Ilkka Hämälä, who will transition to special duties until his retirement on October 23, 2025.

Vanhanen, who has been a board member of Metsäliitto Cooperative since 2022, brings extensive industry experience and a strong strategic vision. Jussi Linnaranta, Chairman of the Board, praised his leadership style, highlighting his ability to leverage the cooperative model to develop high-value products from Finnish wood.

“I’m grateful for this vote of confidence,” said Vanhanen. “Metsä Group is a strong company with a clear direction and committed personnel. I look forward to further strengthening its global position.”

During Hämälä’s tenure, Metsä Group made significant investment in growth and sustainability, including the Kemi bioproduct mill and initiatives in regenerative forestry.

Metsä Group is rooted in the Finnish forest, with its parent company, Metsäliitto Cooperative, owned by over 90,000 forest owners. The company produces wood products, pulp, and paper used in everyday life worldwide, focusing on sustainable, innovative forestry.
