Green Bay Packaging has selected AFRY to provide engineering services for its major modernization project at the Arkansas Kraft paper mill in Morrilton, Arkansas.
This multi-year investment is designed to improve operational efficiency and infrastructure, while advancing the mill’s sustainability profile.
AFRY’s role will include multidisciplinary engineering, procurement support, and on-site services for the Balance of Plant (BOP). The company has been involved in the project from its earliest phases, including conceptual studies and basic engineering.
As part of the modernization, Green Bay Packaging will replace key process components such as the recovery boiler and biomass boiler infrastructure. An electric turbine generator will also be installed, representing a major step in the company’s decarbonization strategy by significantly lowering Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions. The acquisition of approximately 300 acres of land will further support future expansion and investment.
“We recognize that investing in future technologies is crucial for maintaining our leadership in innovation and excellence,” said Brad Harville, Vice President and General Manager of the Arkansas Kraft Division at Green Bay Packaging. “Given AFRY’s established leadership in the Pulp & Paper sector and their impressive track record, we are confident this partnership will be key to our project’s success.”
John Boettcher, Head of Process Industries USA at AFRY, added, “We are proud to contribute to this transition towards a sustainable society. AFRY’s global expertise, combined with our strong local presence, allows us to deliver world-class solutions for industry-leading projects like this one.”
The outcome will be a modernized, efficient, and sustainable paper mill that not only meets today’s operational goals but also supports long-term environmental and economic ambitions.
