Domtar’s Windsor paper mill in Quebec is set to receive a second Bruks truck tipper platform as part of its ongoing modernization program.
This new installation follows the successful deployment of a similar unit in August 2024, further enhancing the mill's efficiency and wood handling capabilities.
The new 65-foot tipper platform will integrate seamlessly with the existing infrastructure, ensuring minimal disruption during installation. "Domtar knows what to expect from our technology," said Joanne Turnell, Sales Representative at Bruks Siwertell. The equipment will be fabricated entirely in Canada, with supervision provided during the mill’s planned summer shutdown to guarantee precise delivery and installation.
Designed for high-volume applications, Bruks truck tipper platforms boast a lifespan of approximately two million lift-and-lower cycles, completing each cycle in under nine minutes. The system handles wood chips destined for the mill’s fiber line, which has an annual capacity of 450,000 metric tons.
Domtar’s Windsor mill is recognized for its sustainability efforts, generating 90% of its energy from renewable resources and reusing more than 97% of its manufacturing byproducts. Additionally, the facility plants half a million trees annually in Domtar-owned forests, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship.
The second truck tipper platform is scheduled for delivery in August 2025, marking another milestone in Domtar’s modernization initiative aimed at maintaining competitiveness in the global pulp and paper industry. With plans to modernize a third truck dump in the future, Domtar continues to invest in cutting-edge technology to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
Located in the Eastern Townships Region of Quebec, Canada, Domtar's Windsor Mill is the last fully integrated fine paper mill in Canada. The mill manages 400,000 acres of forest lands surrounding the mill. Originally built by Angus, Logan & Co. in 1864, the mill now produces bleached hardwood wet-lap market pulp and uncoated freesheet paper, including high-brightness opaques, multi-purpose digital papers, copy paper, laser forms, bond, envelope and recycled content. The mill is known for its innovative approach to sustainability. It leases the use of its forestlands for hunting, fishing and hiking clubs, as well as for maple syrup production.
