Marcal Paper has completed the acquisition of the St. Catharines Tissue Mill in Ontario, adding premium Through-Air-Dried (TAD) tissue and specialty paper production capacity to its North American operations.
The mill, previously owned by BiOrigin Specialty Products, produces TAD parent rolls used in premium at-home and away-from-home paper towel and bath tissue products, along with a range of specialty paper grades. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1912, the St. Catharines operation is one of North America’s long-standing papermaking sites and brings an established specialty paper platform into Marcal’s portfolio.
“St. Catharines is a remarkable asset with a remarkable team behind it,” said Rob Baron, CEO of Marcal. “Adding the complementary mill to our platform is a natural step for Marcal — it strengthens our ability to deliver the premium tissue products our customers expect, while bringing in a deeply experienced workforce and a specialty paper business with a long heritage of innovation.”
Baron also confirmed that employees at the Ontario facility, including members of Independent Paper Workers Union, Unit 124, would join the Marcal organization.
The acquisition expands Marcal’s footprint in premium tissue and specialty paper manufacturing, while adding established TAD production capacity in the Canadian market.
Marcal is a U.S. tissue manufacturer headquartered in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. The company produces tissue and paper products for commercial and institutional markets and operates multiple manufacturing facilities across the United States.
