The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has approved Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited’s (CBPPL) Five-Year Forestry Operating Plan for Zone 5 in Forest Management District 10, allowing forestry operations to proceed through the end of 2030.
On February 19, 2026, Environment, Conservation and Climate Change Minister Chris Tibbs informed the company that two key documents required under the environmental assessment process had been accepted: the Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plan and the Tourism Stakeholder Consultation Plan.
Approval of these plans satisfied the conditions attached to the project’s release from environmental assessment under provincial environmental legislation.
The forestry operating plan covers the period from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2030, and applies to CBPPL timber lands located in central Newfoundland’s Forest Management District 10.
Operations will take place across five main areas: Long Pond, Rocky Pond, Mark’s Pond, Mary Ann Lake and Cassandra Pond.
According to project documentation, the plan outlines a range of forest management activities, including timber harvesting, resource road construction, silviculture programs and related operational work designed to maintain sustainable fibre supply.
Corner Brook Pulp and Paper operates the pulp and paper mill in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, and is part of the Kruger Group. The mill relies on fibre sourced from forest management districts across western and central Newfoundland.
Project documentation is available through the province’s environmental assessment registry (Project 2367).
