Cascades has invested $6.9 million in its uncoated recycled boxboard (URB) plant in Kingsey Falls, Quebec, aiming to improve product quality and increase production capacity to better serve the packaging market, particularly the food sector.
Since last September, the company has installed several new pieces of equipment designed to enhance sheet quality control. According to Cascades, these upgrades will improve key properties of the board, including surface finish and print performance, both critical for food packaging applications.
The investment is expected to strengthen Cascades’ position in this market while supporting the company’s growth and long-term competitiveness.
According to Hugues Simon, President and CEO of Cascades, the project will allow the company to increase production capacity and better meet customer demand while continuing to invest in its Quebec assets.
Commissioned in 1972, the Kingsey Falls plant currently serves the industrial and food packaging markets. The facility employs 68 people and remains an important employer in the region.
Founded in 1964, Cascades develops and manufactures sustainable packaging, hygiene and recovery solutions. The company employs nearly 9,000 people and operates approximately 60 facilities across North America. Cascades’ shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: CAS).
