Smurfit Westrock is strengthening its industrial platform in Mexico with the launch of construction for a new production plant in Ciudad Obregón, in the state of Sonora, Mexico.
The investment, valued at US$65 million, aims to increase the group’s manufacturing capacity in the northwest of the country and to support its growth in logistics-intensive markets.
The project includes the installation of a new corrugated board line to meet the growing demand for fiber-based packaging solutions. The beer, food, and beverage sectors are among the main target markets segments where industrial proximity and supply chain reliability are key competitiveness factors.
The future site will be equipped with advanced machinery and modern technologies to optimize production processes and enhance operational efficiency.
The plant’s design is also aligned with Smurfit Westrock’s global sustainability strategy, placing strong emphasis on reducing environmental impact and improving resource efficiency.
Beyond its industrial dimension, the project is expected to generate over 800 direct and indirect jobs.
Smurfit Westrock operates in more than 40 countries, runs over 500 plants, and employs more than 100,000 people worldwide.
