Sofidel continues to strengthen its presence in North America with a new investment aimed at meeting the region’s rising demand for high-quality tissue products.

The Italian tissue group announced plans to install a Valmet Through-Air-Dried (TAD) paper machine with an annual production capacity of 75,000 metric tons, along with related converting lines for finished products. The start-up of the new line is scheduled for the second quarter of 2028.

While the exact location has yet to be determined, Sofidel confirmed that it will be within one of its existing U.S. facilities. Discussions with local and state authorities are currently underway to finalize the project details.

“With this new, significant investment, we are putting down even stronger roots in the United States,” said Luigi Lazzareschi, CEO of Sofidel. “This expansion will enhance our ability to meet customer demand and supply first-quality products through advanced TAD technology.”

Sofidel currently operates 14 production sites across 11 U.S. states—including Florida, Ohio, South Carolina, and Illinois—and has a corporate office in Horsham, Pennsylvania. In just over a decade, the company has become the fourth-largest tissue producer in the North American market, with a strong presence in both branded and private-label products.

Headquartered in Porcari, Italy, the Sofidel Group employs around 9,500 people and has an annual production capacity of nearly 2 million metric tons of tissue paper. Its well-known consumer brands include Regina, Sopalin, Le Trèfle, Softis, Nalys, and Nicky. The group achieved €3.225 billion in net sales in 2024 and remains committed to achieving Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2050.
