Holmen’s Board and Paper division has introduced Holmen Elevate, a next-generation lightweight kraftliner designed to support more resource-efficient and lower-carbon packaging solutions.
Positioned as the lightest kraftliner currently available on the market, Holmen Elevate is offered in 72, 82 and 92 gsm grades. The product targets applications such as e-commerce, shelf-ready and food packaging, where material efficiency, strength and sustainability performance are increasingly critical.
According to the company, the new kraftliner combines low basis weight with high strength properties, enabling packaging producers to reduce material use without compromising performance. Holmen says this balance supports converters seeking to lower emissions and meet rising customer and regulatory expectations for sustainable packaging.
Holmen Elevate is produced at the Braviken Paper Mill in Sweden and delivers one of the lowest reported carbon footprints in the containerboard segment. The company states that cradle-to-gate CO₂ emissions are around 80% below the European industry average, based on data from the Fisher Solve database. The product is made from fresh fibres sourced from sustainably managed forests.
The Braviken site benefits from an integrated and resource-efficient supply chain, using pulpwood and wood chips from Holmen’s adjacent sawmill operations. This integration supports both cost efficiency and reduced transport-related emissions.
Holmen Board and Paper views the launch as a strategic step in expanding its presence in the containerboard market. The company says Holmen Elevate is designed to meet current market needs while supporting longer-term requirements for lightweight, cost-efficient packaging solutions with a low climate impact.
Holmen Board and Paper is a business area of Holmen Group, producing paperboard and paper for packaging, graphic and specialty applications. With production sites in Sweden, the company focuses on fibre-based products made from sustainably managed forests, emphasizing resource efficiency and low climate impact across its operations.
