Ence’s biofactory in Pontevedra, Spain, has begun its annual technical shutdown, which will run until September 25.

The company is investing more than €11 million in maintenance and strategic projects to strengthen efficiency, safety, and environmental performance. Around 1,500 additional professionals will join the regular workforce during this period to carry out the work.

Safety and Efficiency at the Core

Of the total investment, €5 million will go toward preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure equipment reliability. The remaining funds will be directed to technological upgrades, energy optimization, environmental impact reduction, and enhanced facility safety. Ence has placed particular emphasis on occupational health and safety, reinforcing oversight to guarantee full compliance with preventive measures during the works.

Boosting the Local Economy

The technical shutdown also benefits the Galician economy. Many of the auxiliary companies involved are based in the region, while additional services such as accommodation and catering for workers will be provided by local businesses.
