Saica Group has agreed to acquire German corrugated packaging specialist Thimm, reinforcing its position in the European corrugated packaging and display-solutions market.
Under the deal, Saica will take control of Thimm’s operations in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania, extending its footprint into parts of Central and Eastern Europe where it currently has limited presence. Thimm employs around 2,500 people and has annual production capacity of approximately 1.2 billion square meters of corrugated packaging.
Founded in 1949, Thimm generated revenue of approximately €539 million in 2024 and is known for sustainable corrugated packaging and merchandising displays for consumer goods and industrial applications. Saica, headquartered in Zaragoza, Spain, employs more than 12,000 people and generated about €4 billion in revenue in 2025, with activities spanning recycled paper, corrugated packaging, environmental services and flexible packaging.
Mathias Schliep, chairman of Thimm’s board of directors, said the sale is intended to secure the company’s long-term future in an increasingly competitive European market.
“Only a small number of larger players will be able to gain market share in the future,” Schliep said, adding that joining Saica would provide stability for Thimm’s employees and strengthen the combined European footprint of the two family-owned groups.
Saica said it intends to maintain Thimm’s existing operational structures to ensure continuity for customers and employees. The two companies have collaborated since the late 1990s through a commercial alliance and a joint venture in Poland.
Saica President and CEO Susana Alejandro said Thimm’s regional expertise and customer relationships would complement Saica’s European operations and support further growth in corrugated packaging markets.
As part of the transaction, the Thimm family will fully exit the company. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The acquisition remains subject to approval by competition authorities.
Saica Group is a Spanish producer of recycled paper, corrugated packaging, environmental services and flexible packaging. The company operates more than 100 sites across Europe and the United States.
Thimm develops corrugated packaging and display solutions for consumer goods and industrial markets across Europe.
