VPK Packaging Belgium has installed a new 2.80-metre BHS corrugator at its Erembodegem site, replacing its previous 2.50-metre machine.

The investment strengthens production capacity, improves efficiency, and supports the company’s long-term sustainability goals.

Capacity and sustainability gains

The new corrugator is designed to help VPK increase output from 100 to 170 million square metres of corrugated board at Erembodegem. It features advanced glue temperature control for improved quality, more efficient processes to reduce waste, and an integrated zero-defect system for greater reliability. The additional capacity will also allow for faster deliveries to customers.

“This investment is not only a technical achievement but also proof of what internal collaboration can deliver,” said Tony Reunes, Operations Director Corrugated Board BE & NL.

Smooth installation and teamwork

Production continued throughout the seven-week installation thanks to careful planning, efficient logistics, and employee dedication. External partners also contributed expertise to ensure a smooth and timely start-up.

Strategic investment in the future

The project follows VPK’s earlier investment in a Bobst four-color casemaker in Oudegem and underlines the company’s ongoing commitment to technology, sustainability, and customer value.

Next, VPK plans to activate additional capacity on its rotary die-cutter by moving to a three-shift operation, which will raise finishing capacity to 120 million square metres. This step will bring the company closer to its 170 million square metre target for Erembodegem.

“With this upgrade, we can respond faster, deliver better, and produce more sustainably,” added Reunes.
