Domtar has received the 2026 Leadership in Conservation Award from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, recognizing its forest management and conservation initiatives across North America.

The award reflects Domtar’s long-standing involvement in SFI programs, particularly its participation in the Climate Smart Forestry Initiative and its contributions to field-based research. Among these efforts is Silva21, a multi-stakeholder research initiative focused on improving the resilience of Canadian forests in the face of climate change.

SFI highlighted Domtar’s ability to combine scientific collaboration with field implementation, as well as its work with certified partners on biodiversity and habitat conservation projects. The organization said these initiatives contribute to advancing conservation practices across North American forests.

“These initiatives reflect a broader industry push toward integrating sustainability goals with operational forestry practices,” the company said in outlining the role of certification and collaborative research in long-term forest management.

Domtar said certification remains central to its strategy, providing third-party validation of its forest management and fiber sourcing activities. The company holds SFI certification across all its forest operations and managed lands in Canada and is currently the world’s largest holder of SFI Forest Management certificates.

The award also aligns with Domtar’s 2030 sustainability strategy, which includes commitments related to responsible fiber sourcing, stakeholder collaboration and habitat protection for threatened species.

Domtar operates across pulp, paper, packaging and wood products, with sustainability and certified fiber sourcing remaining central to its long-term strategy.
