Paper Advancement

Ahlstrom has introduced a new flame-retardant paper featuring its proprietary Flame-Gard™ technology, designed to improve fire protection and durability in spray painting booths and industrial workshops.

Engineered for environments with elevated fire risk, the new material chars rather than combusts when exposed to flame and self-extinguishes once the ignition source is removed, providing an essential safety layer for workers and facilities.

Depending on the configuration, the specialty paper can serve as protective wall, ceiling, or floor covering, or be converted into filter components for paint booths. Its combination of high mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and moisture resistance ensures reliable performance in areas exposed to heat, humidity, and overspray.

“Increasing safety standards and awareness in industrial settings have created a strong demand for flame-retardant materials that perform reliably under pressure,” said Eva Thunholm, Vice President, Technical Materials at Ahlstrom. “With Flame-Gard™, we offer a safe solution that enhances fire performance without compromising durability or sustainability.”

Ahlstrom’s Flame-Gard™ paper delivers a rare balance of fire resistance and low water absorption, making it a versatile choice for paint masking, surface protection, and filter manufacturing in professional workshops.
