Huhtamaki has introduced ProDairy, an innovative recyclable single coated paper cup designed for yogurt and dairy products.
The new packaging solution reduces plastic content to below 10% while maintaining high performance standards, making it fully recyclable across Europe.
Fredrik Davidsson, President of Fiber Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania at Huhtamaki, highlighted the challenge of creating sustainable dairy packaging without compromising functionality. “Dairy products require high food safety standards, and reducing plastic while maintaining performance has been a challenge. ProDairy meets these needs while offering a cost-efficient, recyclable solution,” he stated.
One of the key innovations in ProDairy is its unique rim design and sealing technology, which ensures a perfect fit for lids and a strong side seam. The cup also features a proprietary sealing varnish that replaces the traditional polyethylene outer layer, maintaining a paper-like feel with a matte finish while offering a high moisture barrier for chilled storage.
Manufactured in Europe, ProDairy uses paperboard sourced from sustainably managed forests. Huhtamaki’s latest innovation aligns with growing consumer demand for eco-friendly packaging while providing a practical and scalable solution for dairy manufacturers.
Huhtamaki, a global provider of sustainable packaging solutions, operates in 36 countries with approximately 18,000 employees. The company's 2024 net sales totaled EUR 4.1 billion.
