Kapag and Sappi have teamed up to unveil “Changemaker,” an innovative paper-based packaging solution designed to replace plastic without compromising performance.
First introduced at FachPack, the concept offers food brands a fully recyclable, mono-material barrier alternative built entirely from paper.
The Changemaker packaging combines Kapag’s advanced lamination technology with Sappi’s premium paperboard products—Algro Design or Fusion Topliner—and AvantGuard functional barrier paper. Together, the materials deliver high-performance grease, oxygen, and moisture protection, making the solution suitable for a range of food products.
“Changemaker was developed to show that sustainability and functionality don’t need to be mutually exclusive,” said Alexander Meyer, Managing Owner of Kapag. “With Sappi’s barrier innovations and our lamination capabilities, we’re delivering packaging that meets environmental goals and food safety needs.”
The solution also highlights flexibility in design and application. Kapag’s lamination line can handle materials from 5 cm to 250 cm in width and produce sheet formats up to 360 cm long. The company’s production runs at 95% carbon neutrality, supported by biomass and solar energy.
Kapag’s Changemaker brand reflects its broader mission to reduce plastic usage by offering laminated paperboard solutions suitable for food, cosmetics, healthcare, and other sectors. The concept includes Kapag’s Algro Duo—laminated Algro Design sheets that extend Sappi’s paperboard portfolio with enhanced rigidity and durability.
By combining technical excellence with environmental responsibility, the Kapag–Sappi collaboration signals a shift toward next-generation packaging solutions for sustainability-conscious brands.
