Stora Enso has announced the launch of UKP Nova E, a newly developed grade of Unbleached Kraft Pulp (UKP) engineered for demanding electrical insulation papers.

Produced at the company’s Enocell mill, UKP Nova E offers low electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength, and a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to bleached alternatives.

Tailored specifically for the electrical insulation paper market, UKP Nova E meets the stringent purity and performance standards required for products such as transformer boards, cable papers, battery separator papers, and capacitor papers. Its high viscosity and low conductivity make it an ideal renewable solution for applications where dielectric reliability and mechanical durability are essential.

"UKP Nova E reflects Stora Enso’s strategy of combining technical excellence with sustainable innovation," the company stated. The pulp is made from traceable pine and spruce sourced from certified Nordic forests, in line with the company’s commitment to responsible forest management.

As an unbleached pulp, UKP Nova E requires fewer chemicals and less energy, resulting in nearly 30% lower CO₂ emissions per tonne than bleached alternatives. FSC® and PEFC™ chain-of-custody certification is available upon request.

The new grade joins the UKP Nova portfolio, which also includes pulps designed for demanding packaging and specialty applications, as well as UKP Nova FC for fiber cement boards.

With UKP Nova E, Stora Enso enhances its role as a provider of high-performance, fiber-based biomaterials, supporting customers in both technical paper segments and broader sustainability goals.
