Mondi ended 2025 on a resolute note, unveiling a sharper industrial strategy in its full-year results that blends headcount cuts, business mergers, and three targeted plant closures across Europe.
The moves cap a year of recalibration for the packaging giant, marked earlier by softer demand in flexible packaging and uncoated fine paper, offset by steady corrugated solutions growth and cost controls that kept EBITDA resilient.
The restructuring kicks off centrally: Group Services shed 13% of its staff to streamline overheads, while the Corrugated Packaging and Uncoated Fine Paper units formally merged—a pragmatic step to fuse operations, hasten synergies, and pare structural costs without fanfare.
On the factory floor, the pain is more tangible. Mondi confirmed shutdowns at a Corrugated Solutions plant in Gebze, Türkiye; its Paper Bags operations in Hungary; and a bags site in Hammelburg, Germany. These add to 22 closures over the past decade, even as group volumes climbed—a testament to the quiet productivity grind that’s reshaped its network.
Context matters here. 2025 saw Mondi navigating uneven markets: flexible packaging volumes dipped amid economic headwinds, while bag demand softened further. Yet the company leaned into pricing discipline and efficiency tweaks, holding underlying EBITDA near prior-year levels despite the drag.
