Kruger Products Inc. has officially inaugurated its new light dry crepe (LDC) tissue plant in Sherbrooke, marking the culmination of a major $377.5-million expansion project.

Built adjacent to the company’s existing TAD facility, the new plant features a double-width tissue machine and two new converting lines, one for facial tissue and another for bathroom tissue.

The project has created 205 direct jobs, bringing the number of new positions at the Sherbrooke Operational Centre to 378 since 2020. In total, Kruger Products now employs 429 people in the Estrie region and supports approximately 1,500 direct and indirect jobs locally.

This inauguration also completes a broader investment strategy totaling nearly $1 billion in the Sherbrooke area since 2018, positioning the city as a major hub for tissue production in North America. The Québec government, through Investissement Québec, contributed $165 million in loans to support the expansion.

With a production capacity of 60,000 metric tonnes, the new LDC machine nearly doubles the output of the Sherbrooke facility, raising total annual production above 130,000 metric tonnes. The state-of-the-art complex, located in the city’s Brompton borough, now ranks among the most advanced in North America and manufactures popular household brands such as Cashmere UltraLuxe®, Scotties® Ultra Soft, and SpongeTowels Ultra Pro®.

“This second plant fulfills our vision to make Sherbrooke a leading center for premium tissue production,” said Michel Manseau, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer Business – Canada, at Kruger Products.

Government officials, including Québec’s Minister of Economy Christine Fréchette and Sherbrooke Mayor Évelyne Beaudin, praised the project’s economic impact and timely execution. The construction phase alone accounted for 660,000 work hours, generated $165 million in regional spending, and created around 1,000 construction-related jobs.

Kruger Products is Canada's top manufacturer of quality tissue products for home and commercial use, with operations across ten FSC®-certified plants in North America.
