Pixelle Specialty Solutions has completed the sale of its Chillicothe, Ohio, paper mill to U.S. Paper Mill, LLC, an affiliate of U.S. Medical Glove Company (USMGC).
The buyer has committed to maintaining the site’s industrial legacy and creating new jobs in the local community.
Following the announcement of the mill’s closure, Pixelle worked closely with federal, state, and local authorities in Ohio, as well as with JobsOhio, to ensure a sustainable outcome for employees and the surrounding region. The company believes this transaction fulfills its goal of preserving industrial activity and supporting the Ross County labor market.
“Chillicothe has been an important part of our history, and we are deeply grateful to the employees and families who supported this mill for decades,” said Julie Schertell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pixelle. “While it was a difficult decision to discontinue operations, we believe this outcome offers the best path forward for the community.”
Pixelle stated that the $5.5 million in net proceeds from the sale will be allocated to a fund benefiting unions and affected employees. An initial $1 million will be distributed immediately, with the remaining funds released once post-closing conditions are met.
The company continues to support its workforce through career transition services, job placement assistance, and extended access to its Employee Assistance Program.
The transaction received strong support from Ohio officials, including Senator Bernie Moreno, who praised U.S. Medical Glove Company’s plan to create American manufacturing jobs through the production of domestically made medical products.
Headquartered in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, Pixelle Specialty Solutions is one of North America’s leading manufacturers of specialty papers. Through innovation, quality, and collaboration, the company offers one of the most comprehensive portfolios in the industry.
