The ST Group of Companies has acquired a tissue paper mill in Barnwell County, South Carolina, from Cascades Inc., further expanding its North American manufacturing footprint.
The deal was finalized through ST’s new subsidiary, Barnwell Tissue Solutions.
With this acquisition, ST adds a third tissue production facility and raises its total annual capacity to 220,000 tons. The Barnwell site will enhance ST’s ability to supply high-quality parent rolls for bathroom tissue, paper towels, and napkins across the away-from-home sector.
The mill, equipped with a 110-inch Valmet hybrid QRT/DCT tissue machine installed in 2016, can produce 30,000 tons annually. It also features a 40,000-ton recycled fiber deinking line, supporting both virgin and recycled production. The 300,000-square-foot site offers warehouse space and future expansion potential.

Founded in 2007, ST Group previously acquired mills in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, and Franklin, Virginia, and continues to invest in rural U.S. manufacturing. As part of the agreement, Cascades will continue sourcing tissue from the Barnwell mill.
With a focus on local hiring, recycled paper production, and operational flexibility, ST aims to reinforce its role as the largest parent roll marketer in the U.S. tissue industry.
