A major fire at East Fraser Fiber’s Quesnel mill disrupted operations on June 21, drawing a multi-department firefighting response and prompting a temporary highway closure.
Crews remained on site for nearly 12 hours and returned later to manage hot spots.
The building has since been cleared of fibre, but the extent of structural damage is still being assessed. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Located near Highway 97 and Quesnel-Hixon Road, the mill specializes in processing trim blocks. It remains out of operation with no timeline announced for reopening.
Authorities are reminding drivers to respect fire scenes after a vehicle damaged critical hose equipment by entering a closed area during the response.
