Saica Flex, a division of Saica Group, has unveiled a €7.1 million investment in cutting-edge machinery at its Wigan site, marking a significant advancement in the company's flexible packaging capabilities.
The investment, officially launched on March 19, 2025, aims to enhance production efficiency and create up to 20 new local jobs, with 11 positions already filled.
The new equipment includes a state-of-the-art printing press and advanced conversion machinery, such as specialized perforation units, a hole-punching system, and a high-speed slitting machine.This technology will primarily boost the production of Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), extending the shelf life of perishable products like sliced onions and diced fruits from a few hours to 4-6 days.
Susana Alejandro, President & CEO of Saica Group, emphasized the investment's dual impact: "It not only strengthens our manufacturing capabilities but also solidifies our commitment to the Wigan community. We are excited to create new jobs and contribute to local economic growth".
The launch event brought together key figures from Saica Group, Wigan Council, and the UK government, underscoring the investment's significance for the local economy. This move aligns with Saica Group's broader strategy of expanding its UK presence, following a recent £10 million investment in a new warehouse facility in Hartlepoo.
