CellMark has appointed Doug Smith as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 13, 2025.
He is based in Toronto, Canada, and works regularly from CellMark’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The company said the leadership transition reflects a strategy focused on continuity, culture and long-term growth.
Doug Smith brings more than two decades of experience in the pulp industry, with a background spanning both the agency and producer sides of the business. He began his early career as a retail entrepreneur in Ontario and later launched a manufacturing start-up that developed the world’s first engineered coated board.
Smith joined CellMark in 2009 and has led CellMark Pulp, the division that founded the company, since 2014. Under his leadership, the division has delivered continued performance and expanded market presence. He has also served on CellMark’s Board of Directors since 2019, a role he will retain in his new position.
According to the Board, Smith’s industry knowledge, leadership experience and familiarity with CellMark’s values and management approach make him well positioned to lead the company. He will continue to oversee CellMark Pulp during the transition period.
The appointment marks a significant leadership milestone for CellMark as it enters its next phase of development across global markets.
