Metsä Fibre has developed an innovative pulp-based light fibre material that combines high performance with sustainability.
Engineered from renewable wood fibres, the material’s structure can be tailored to achieve a wide density range – from compact, robust forms to ultra-lightweight, porous configurations – enabling its use across diverse industrial and design applications.
According to Pirkko-Leena Hakkarainen, Product Development Director at Metsä Fibre, the material exhibits excellent processing and moulding capabilities, accurately reproducing even the smallest surface details with precision. Its adaptability makes it ideal for applications requiring complex geometries, aesthetic surface finishes, or lightweight structural components.
The pulp-based light fibre is compatible with various refining techniques and special treatments to modify its mechanical properties, texture, and appearance. This flexibility allows it to replace fossil-based raw materials in multiple end uses, thereby advancing sustainability goals within industrial value chains.
