Brüning Group has agreed to acquire selected Södra operations in Denmark, expanding the German group’s presence in wood products and bioenergy-related trading while allowing Södra to concentrate resources on its core businesses.
The transaction covers project sales, interior wood products and trading activities within Södra’s bioenergy business in Denmark. Completion is expected by the end of September 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Transaction supports Södra’s portfolio focus
Södra said the divestment forms part of its effort to create a more efficient organisation and sharpen the focus of its different business areas. The change is intended to concentrate resources and expertise on operations where the forest industry group sees the strongest development potential.
“The transaction strengthens our ability to focus on the areas where we see the greatest potential going forward,” said Johannes Bogren, Executive Vice President of Södra Bioproducts.
Bogren added that Södra aims to provide a smooth transition for customers, business partners and employees while maintaining a strong presence in Denmark. Brüning Group, an established trader and distributor of wood and bioenergy-related products, is expected to develop the acquired operations using its experience in the relevant market segments.
Södra will maintain a presence in Denmark
The agreement does not mark Södra’s departure from the Danish market. The group will retain several product and service lines in the country while reorganising how other activities are managed.
Through Södra Wood, the company will continue supplying structural and pressure-treated timber. Södra Building Systems will continue offering cross-laminated timber. Södra Bioproducts will continue to develop its bioenergy and biochemicals offering in Denmark, with sales and customer relationships coordinated from Sweden.
Södra said Denmark remains an important market across its business areas and that the revised structure will allow it to continue developing its offering with a more focused use of resources.
For Brüning Group, the transaction adds project sales, interior wood products and bioenergy trading activities in Denmark to its existing wood and biomass platform. The operations and employees covered by the agreement are expected to transfer to Brüning Group Danmark ApS.
Södra is Sweden’s largest forest-owner association, with approximately 53,000 family forest owners as members. The group processes members’ forest raw material into products including market pulp, sawn timber, building systems, bioenergy and biochemicals for customers in international markets.
Brüning Group is a German company specialising in the trading, distribution and logistics of biomass, wood products and renewable raw materials.
