German specialty paper manufacturer Felix Schoeller is rolling out a €13 million investment package aimed at strengthening competitiveness and sustainability across its operations in Germany.
Spread over the next two years, the plan encompasses four strategic projects at the company’s sites in Osnabrück, Weißenborn, Günzach, and Neustadt, and marks a new milestone in the implementation of its Reinvent Strategy.
Expansion in Osnabrück for décor papers
The lion’s share of the investment—€9 million—will go to the company’s headquarters in Osnabrück. The project focuses on upgrading Paper Machine 1, boosting its performance by around 20 percent. This move consolidates Felix Schoeller’s position as the operator of Europe’s most powerful décor paper machine, securing a decisive competitive advantage and creating additional capacity for the décor market.
Sustainability upgrades across three sites
An additional €4 million is dedicated to sustainability measures. In Weißenborn, the company will install a steam accumulator to improve energy efficiency and cut CO₂ emissions. At Neustadt, a new heat exchanger will be fitted on Paper Machine 18, while in Günzach, the modernization of the wastewater treatment plant will expand expertise in pre-impregnates (PRIP) and improve customer flexibility.
Preparing for 2027 and beyond
The investment package is designed to secure full capacity in décor papers from 2027 onwards, enhance customer offerings, and reinforce Felix Schoeller’s competitiveness. It comes on the heels of structural adjustments earlier this year, including the closure of the Penig mill and portfolio optimization in Imaging.
CEO Hans-Christoph Gallenkamp emphasized the significance of the move:
“With these investments, we are reaffirming our commitment to Germany as a production location, enhancing our performance, and laying the foundation for further growth. This package is the next logical step in our strategy following the difficult decisions we had to make on consolidating our plant structures.”
