Stora Enso has completed its acquisition of Finnish sawmill company Junnikkala Oy, strengthening its position in wood supply and expanding its sawmilling capacity in Finland.
The deal, initially announced in October 2024, represents a strategic step to support the ramp-up of Stora Enso’s new packaging board production at its Oulu site.
The transaction, valued at up to EUR 137 million, includes performance-based components tied to production milestones. Once Junnikkala’s new sawmill in Oulu reaches full operation, the integration is expected to generate approximately EUR 15 million in annual synergies.
The acquisition will increase Stora Enso’s annual wood procurement in Finland by about 1.7 million cubic metres and boost its overall sawmilling capacity by 700,000 cubic metres. Junnikkala’s sawmill products will also enhance Stora Enso’s wood product portfolio.
Stora Enso sees the move as part of its broader commitment to renewable materials and sustainable growth. "The forest is at the heart of Stora Enso, and we believe everything made from fossil-based materials today can be made from a tree tomorrow," the company stated.
