Metsä Tissue, part of Metsä Group, has concluded change negotiations at its Mänttä mill in Finland, confirming the discontinuation of recycled fibre production.

Initiated in March 2025, these negotiations aimed at adjusting production capacity to better align with the company's strategic focus on fresh fibre-based hygiene products.

As part of this strategic realignment, one tissue paper machine will be permanently shut down. This move will result in approximately seven job redundancies, expected to be finalized by the first half of 2026. Metsä Tissue is committed to mitigating the impact by offering affected employees alternative roles within the broader Metsä Group.

Despite these operational changes, Metsä Group affirmed its ongoing investments in the Mänttä mill, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening production capabilities and innovation in fresh fibre products. The Mänttä mill is notable for producing prominent brands such as Serla, Lambi, and Katrin, alongside customer-specific products and SAGA baking and cooking papers.

These actions underline Metsä Tissue's broader goal to enhance efficiency and sustainability, adapting to market trends favoring fresh fibre-based solutions.

Metsä Tissue employs approximately 2,500 people globally, with 2024 sales totaling EUR 1.2 billion.
