Metsä Tissue has completed negotiations with the works council regarding the future direction of its Kreuzau tissue paper mill in Germany.

The discussions follow the investment and capacity adjustment plan announced in January 2025.

As a result, the total number of job reductions has been revised to 93, down from the initial estimate of 123. According to the company, the adjustments will be made without compulsory redundancies.

“We are firmly committed to the future of Kreuzau mill,” said Tobias Lüning, SVP West and Country Manager at Metsä Tissue GmbH. He emphasized that the jointly developed plan and planned investments aim to realign the mill for long-term competitiveness while maintaining its role as a reliable supplier of sustainable hygiene tissue products.

Kreuzau is among the largest tissue mills in Europe and plays a key role in Metsä Group’s Central European operations. It produces high-quality fresh fiber tissue papers for households and professional customers.

Metsä Tissue, part of Metsä Group, produces tissue and greaseproof papers under brands such as Lambi, Serla, Mola, Tento, Katrin, and SAGA. In 2024, the company reported EUR 1.2 billion in sales and employed approximately 2,500 people. Metsä Group is owned by nearly 90,000 Finnish forest owners through the Metsäliitto Cooperative.
