Domtar Sets Ambitious Sustainability Targets for 2030

Sustainability

On May 6, Domtar unveiled its new sustainability strategy—an ambitious, structured plan to guide the company through to 2030.

Anchored in stakeholder expectations and aligned with key environmental and social priorities, this roadmap aims to strengthen Domtar’s responsible practices across its operations in Canada and the United States.

The strategy is built around three central pillars — environmental stewardship, commitment to people and communities, and responsible business — and outlines 12 measurable goals with performance indicators for 2026 and 2030.

A Long-Term Vision for Natural Resources
Domtar plans to sustainably manage its forest resources, enhance biodiversity at high-risk sites, decarbonize its operations through science-based targets, and improve water resilience at its mills.

Commitment to Communities
The strategy also emphasizes workplace safety, collaboration with Indigenous communities, $20 million in community investments over five years, and a focus on employee engagement and professional development.

Governance Based on Ethics and Innovation
Domtar pledges to uphold international standards in ethics, human rights, and transparency. It also aims to direct a significant share of its innovation investments toward sustainable solutions while building strong relationships with partners and customers.

“Our goals are ambitious and reflect a clear commitment to evolving our practices, while remaining transparent about our results,” said Sabrina de Branco, Chief of Global Sustainability Services.

Developed through an extensive consultation process — with over 500 survey respondents and 85 interviews — the strategy is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and will serve as the foundation for Domtar’s first integrated sustainability report, set to be published later this year.
