Metsäliitto Cooperative, the parent company of Metsä Group, has announced the appointment of Juha Vanhainen to its Board of Directors, effective January 1, 2026.
The decision was made by the Cooperative’s Supervisory Board during its meeting on October 23, 2025.
Vanhainen brings extensive leadership experience from across the Nordic industrial and food sectors. He previously served as CEO of Apetit, a Finnish food industry company, and held several international executive positions at Stora Enso, where he was also a member of the Group Executive Team. Currently, he sits on the Boards of Metsä Board and Ponsse, reinforcing his strong ties to Finland’s forestry and manufacturing industries.
The Supervisory Board also confirmed the re-election of Jussi Linnaranta and Mikko Mäkimattila, whose terms were due to expire, ensuring continuity within the Cooperative’s leadership team.
With more than 90,000 forest owners as members, Metsäliitto Cooperative plays a central role in Finland’s forest-based bioeconomy. Through its subsidiaries—including Metsä Forest, Metsä Fibre, Metsä Board, and Metsä Tissue—the Group produces renewable and recyclable wood-based products for global markets. In 2024, Metsä Group reported EUR 5.7 billion in sales and employed approximately 9,600 people. www.metsagroup.com
