Mondi has introduced an innovative solution to enhance sustainability in the construction sector. The company’s new offering,

IntegoBag, serves as an alternative to traditional paper bags that use a separate film barrier. By integrating barrier coatings directly into the bag, Mondi’s IntegoBag simplifies recycling while effectively transporting building materials and extending product shelf life.

The IntegoBag is built using Mondi’s proprietary FunctionalBarrier Paper, which provides a robust moisture barrier, reducing the reliance on polyethylene (PE) by up to 50%. This significant reduction in plastic content marks a major step forward for sustainability within the industry. “Our solution aligns with our MAP2030 goals, emphasizing recyclable and circular solutions that prevent waste,” said Mauro Vitali, Sales Manager for Paper Bags Italy at Mondi.

Mondi’s end-to-end production process plays a crucial role in the development of the IntegoBag. The company’s vertically integrated operations allow it to manufacture kraft paper from responsibly sourced fibers, apply the functional barrier coating, and convert the paper into the final bag—all within Mondi’s facilities. This comprehensive approach ensures product quality and sustainability at every stage.

Certified recyclable through Mondi’s Frantschach recycling lab and adhering to CEPI v.2 and 4evergreen protocols, the IntegoBag achieved a score of 19 out of 20 points in Interseroh+ certification. Such recognition underscores Mondi’s commitment to delivering high-performance, eco-friendly packaging solutions.

The construction industry’s response has been positive, with notable partnerships established to refine and validate the product’s efficacy. Collaborations with industry leaders like Saint-Gobain have highlighted the bag’s compatibility with specific needs, fostering value for all stakeholders.

Already attracting attention, IntegoBag has been nominated for the Austrian Green Star Packaging Award and shortlisted for the UK Sustainability Award. “Working with partners, we’ve created a recyclable alternative that helps our customers meet regulatory expectations and reduce environmental impact,” Vitali added.

IntegoBag is available in both bleached and unbleached varieties and accommodates packaging needs for loads up to 25kg. Its printability and performance make it a practical and sustainable choice for modern construction material packaging.
