Mondi has inaugurated a new high-performance kraft paper machine at its Štětí mill in the Czech Republic, marking a significant expansion in capacity for renewable and recyclable paper-based packaging.
The machine, which began production in December 2024, will supply around 210,000 tonnes of kraft paper annually for flexible packaging, eCommerce and industrial applications. It is part of a €400 million investment in the mill aimed at securing supply for customers and optimizing the company’s wider kraft paper portfolio, including specialty and functional barrier grades.
More than 130 customers and partners attended an inauguration event earlier this month, featuring presentations on the project, a panel discussion on market trends and sustainability, and tours of the new machine. Mondi Group CEO Andrew King described the line as a symbol of “innovation, sustainability and teamwork” supporting customers’ transition to circular packaging solutions.
Mondi is a global packaging and paper group with operations in more than 30 countries and a focus on fiber-based and recyclable materials. The company manufactures kraft paper, corrugated packaging, flexible packaging and specialty products for industrial and consumer markets. Mondi reported €8.2 billion in revenues in 2024 and employs more than 20,000 people worldwide.
